Rules - Effective Winter 2014
1. Starting time. Matches must start (first point be in play) at the time posted or within 5 minutes of a previous match. If a team is not present to start on time it forfeits the first set. If there is a disagreement about the correct time, get a third party to settle the issue. If a match does not start within 15 minutes of the schedule, or agreed upon time, then the team responsible for the delay forfeits the match. Please arrive at the courts early enough to allow adequate warm-ups before the posted time.
2. Match Play. Matches will be determined by the best of 2 of 3 sets. No-add scoring will be used for the first two sets. The third set will be a tie-breaker set.
3. Tie Breakers. A 12 point tie-breaker (first to 7 points with a margin of 2) will be played at six games all, during the first two sets. The third set will be a tie-breaker set which will also be a 12 point tie breaker.
4.Substitutes and Rescheduling.
Doubles matches – When a player is unable to play a doubles match due to injury or unavailability, the preferred solution is to find a substitute, since rescheduling the match is usually difficult and sometimes impossible. There is an easy way to request a sub by clicking on the link above the list of substitutes which sends out an automatic email to all the subs at your current level of play and 1 rank below. However, if the substitute happens to be a current roster member, he CAN only be the same rank/seed as the the player requesting the sub.
Singles Matches – When a player is unable to play a singles match, the player may choose to reschedule the match, with proper notice and agreement from his opponent. Singles matches are more easily rescheduled than doubles matches. You cannot request a sub for any kind of singles match. If the match is not made up, the match has to be defaulted as a loss to the player that could not play the originally scheduled match.
In all cases, it is a player responsibility to find a substitute whenever necessary. They should be chosen from the sub list and ranked to play at your level or below. You may use other league players who have the same ranking as yourself. Make sure they are informed of the correct time and place of the match.
Also, if called for by the schedule, make sure to provide them (or someone else you’ve chosen) with a new can of balls to bring to the court. The player must notify his captain in the event a sub cannot be obtained.
If a substitute is not available and it is necessary to reschedule a match, it should be played within two weeks of the original date, and it must be played at the before the last scheduled night of the session. If not played, the team responsible for the rescheduling forfeits the match. Use of an unauthorized or incorrectly ranked substitute will also result in a forfeit. If problems or questions arise, please call call r e-mail John Quinlan (832-226-3930).
5. Challenge Matches. In the case of upsets, the winner and loser of challenge matches exchange places on the schedule for the remainder of the session. Due to schedule constraints, rematches will not be allowed.
6. Scores. It is the responsibility of the winning team to report which team won, though all players should report their scores. It is not necessary to report specific scores but if a substitute played for either side after the sub’s name should be reported in addition to which team won. Report the information by telephone, text or e-mail within 48 hours to team captain and also to Srini Kamana via e-mail. Unreported scores will be recorded as a loss for both sides.
7. Balls. A player is indicated on the schedule by bold underlined print as being responsible for bringing a new can of balls for each match. During the session players will bring a total of either four or five cans depending on the schedule.
8. Rain/Cold Weather. During cold weather, matches will not be played if the temperature is less than 40 degrees at 7:00 pm. In the case of rain, all matches are still on unless it is obvious they cannot be played. If in doubt, call or e-mail John Quinlan (832-226-3930). Rain outs, except challenge matches, will be rescheduled at the end of the session. Canceled challenge matches will be played at the next date of league play. On rain outs where part of the match has been played, only complete sets will be carried over, all other partial scores will be replayed.
9. Dues. A $30.00 trophy assessment due should be made to Francis Tongol by the third week of the session. It should be given directly to him or mailed to him at 2206 Laurelglen Ct, League City, TX 77573. If you want to save a stamp you can pay via PayPal.
Simply provide Francis with your e-mail address that is linked to your PayPal account and he will issue you a PayPal e-mail payment request. Francis’s e-mail address is francis@tongol.com.
